rice time: october 2024

Happy Halloween!!!!! October always ends up being a crunch month for me for some reason….. Well, most of the things I’m about to write about in this newsletter happened way before October, though. Except 炜WARD ROMANCE that was part of crunch month this month

炜WARD ROMANCE

My music circle, FLAVOR FOLEY, has released their fourth single, “炜WARD ROMANCE”!

I actually wrote this song around the same time as weathergirl (during my stint where I was convinced I’d become a Shian-P….). The amazing and epic JamieP and Vane Lily of course took my original song sketch and made it something amazing….

I did contribute to the production this time though!! The Chinese percussion and guzheng and stuff in the arrange are all me :-) I’m pretty proud of the drumline I hope everyone also likes the drumline. I also tuned the Kevin line at the end if you care

Fun fact, this song was originally called Shanghai Romance, but then I realized I was accidentally ripping off an Orange Caramel song so we pivoted. My memories of Shanghai are fuzzy at best so it was probably for the better

I found out that apparently 陶醉 has a valid synonymous kanji reading, but 沉醉 does not. Therefore actually this was not a lyric mistake caused by my lack of chinese reading comprehension but my epic awesome mr. worldwide 5d chess foresight.

BREATHE (WITH PIKO)

I contributed a teeny tiny bit to Circus’ Piko cover of Breathe!

Watching this costume design be brought to life by such talented 3D artists was literally sooooooo cool…. The final video came out absolutely incredible, so I hope you’ll check it out!

VIMALION PRO

In case you don’t know, VIMALION PRO is my baseline character resource for faceless vocal synths. In essence, they’re free-to-use designs for voicebanks that don’t have mascots.

The 2 new Dreamtonics voicebanks, Riku and Felicia, are now available on the VIMALION PRO website. As always, you can use these designs however you’d like.

Riku sounds like the every Jpop man (affectionate). Felicia is crazy good. Can I attach audio files in this newsletter thing hold on

She’s awesome. I really like her. She has a ton of range; vintage but also girlypop, musical theatre but also operatic, so it was hard to make a design that covered all her bases… I hope I did an okay job!

Also, I assumed that Yi Xi and Ling Wan would be put on the global Dreamtonics store with the next global release, so I also have added Ling Wan to the VIMALION site in this update! (A few months late, sorry queen) In addition, all the character pages have been revamped with a slightly updated format and additional context. Take a look!

Truthfully I think moving social media platforms is lowkey doomed to be kind of an endless cycle of “old thing sucks because of XYZ problems → move to cool new thing → everyone moves there → it gets as big as old thing → new thing starts to have the same XYZ problems that people assumed were localized to the old thing but is really just an inevitable problem that would pop up in any thing at that size → new thing sucks”. I know Twitter is kind of a special case from this phenomenon but regardless…. This thought process is 1. part of why I have this email list!
